45mile Canoe/Kayak Race

Limited to 50 teams

(NO Hull Restrictions/Requirements Solo Boats Only)

Race Start: 8:00am

Relay order must be clearly designated on relay cards and delivered to the race director no later than 7:30 am.  Relay exchanges will involve the passing of a laminated team card from one member to the other in the designated exchange zone.  Failure to complete the exchange or finish the race without the laminated card will result in a two-hour penalty. You are not obligated to paddle the same boat:  each participant can paddle their own boat for their individual leg.   Cut-off times to each exchange will be enforced (see below).

The start line will be in rows of four determined in the following manner.

  1. Postmark date of entry
  2. All teams whose members consist in entirety of TCRA members in good standing for 2009 will be placed ahead of teams not wholly compromised of 2009 TCRA members.
  3. TCRA memberships are available at www.txcanoeracing.org.  TCRA memberships must be attained no later than March 28 to be placed on the rows of four ahead of nonmembers.  Late Registration is limited to slots available 

Leg 1 San Marcos City Park-Staples (Portaging Staples Dam is required before hand touch at Grumbles Gravel Bar) 16.3 miles.Cut-off time 12:00pm 

Leg 2 Staples-Stairtown (Sand Bar Below Bridge) 15.5 miles. Cut-off time 4:00pm  

Leg 3 Stairtown-Luling Z-Dam (Finish) 12 miles. Must arrive at Luling 90 no later than 5:00 pm or you will be pulled from race.(Total Distance 45 miles) 

The race director reserves the right to adjust cut-off times based on current water levels. 

Classes: A relay team consists of three paddlers: Male, Female, Mixed, or Masters (40+).  To make a class, there must be at least two teams participating.  Note: the race director reserves the right to move the team up into the next class. 

Other rules: 

  • Mandatory portages at Capes Camp Dam/Thompson’s Island, Cummings Dam, Martindale Dam long portage below Martindale Low water crossing, and Staples Dam.
  • Unlimited support will be allowed through out the race please be mindful of private property.
  • All exchanges must occur in the marked relay exchange Zones.
  • Rules of good sportsmanship apply.  Protests can be filed with the Race Director until one hour prior to awards.
  • All Racers will begin and finish the race with a functional and easily accessible personal floatation device.
  • All boats will have adequate flotation to float when filled with water.
  • Any racer who abandons the race must contact the race director.  Failure to do so will result in banishment in future races.

Awards:  Awards ceremony will be at 4:00pm.  Cash prizes to be awarded based on percentage of entry fees to top ten finishers regardless of class.  Awards to be given to the first 3 finishers in each class.

Fees:  Early Registration runs Jan. 5th through March 28th 2010.

Whole team entries only:  $75.00 per team if all are current members of

TCRA, otherwise $90.00 per team.  

Late registration or on-site registration Friday April 23 is $120.00 limited to slots available.  There is no race day registration. 

USCA INSURANCE
This is a United States Canoe Association sanctioned event.  All racers will need to purchase single event coverage at race check in for $6.00.

All waivers will be signed at packet pickup prior to the event.
